Susan McKinney earned her Affiliate Broker license in 1999 and her Broker’s license in approximately 2006. Her choice of associations to place her membership with was WCRA and she has maintained her membership for over 21 years. The first committee she served on was the Membership Committee. Since then she has served on numerous committees including Professional Development, Member Services, Scholarship, Budget & Finance, Bylaws, Policy & Procedures, has served as Chairman/Vice-Chair of Grievance Committee, and Chairman/Vice-Chair of Professional Standards. Currently, she is a member of the Professional Development Committee, Professional Development Task Force, and Vice-Chair of the Professional Standards Committee. Susan has served as a Director, Secretary/Treasurer, President-Elect, Past President on the Board of Directors, and was President of WCAR in 2007. During her tenure on the Executive Committee, she earned the Sterling R designation for her support of RPAC. Susan is also a Licensed Real Estate Instructor in Tennessee.
Susan is a graduate of the University of Tennessee (Knoxville) with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Adult Education and a Masters of Science in Nursing. Before becoming a Realtor®, Susan had a successful career in Health Care, and served in many leadership positions, such as an Orthopedic Clinical Specialist, Director of Patient Services in the Department of Medical Information Systems at Fort Sanders Regional Medical Center. At Thompson Cancer Survivor Center, she held the position of Patient Care Services and had direct responsibility for Information Services, Admissions, Business Office/Account Receivables, and Patient Flow. She has served as an instructor/adjunct faculty for the University of Tennessee College of Nursing in both the BSN and MSN programs. Susan has also held the positions of Director of Nursing Program at Roane State Community College and Assistant Professor in the College of Nursing at Middle Tennessee State University.
Susan is married to Burton McKinney and they started their married life in Knoxville, Tennessee. They moved to Franklin in 1995 and lived there for 21 years before moving to Thompsons Station in 2016. They have 2 daughters and 4 grandchildren. Over the years Susan has been active in many community endeavors, including serving on various committees such as a church, United Way, American Heart Association, and Franklin Tomorrow. She currently serves on the Architectural Review Committee for her subdivision and is a nonmedical volunteer for the TN Department of Health.
Since Susan joined WCAR, she has witnessed it grow to over 2400 members. As we have experienced changes in the Real Estate industry in the past several years, as well as a pandemic in the last 5 months, there are many challenges and opportunities ahead for all associations. Susan would like to be part of the team to assist WCAR and its members in meeting the challenges and providing the best services for our members so they can be successful in their careers as REALTORS®.
