The Rob Report: November 2018
November 2018
Thanksgiving - it's a day that can get lost in the shuffle between Halloween and Christmas. It seems like the decorations at the local retailers jumped straight from pumpkins and candy corn to Christmas trees and mistletoe. This bothers me because Thanksgiving is one of my favorite holidays. It's a time to reflect on the many blessings we have received during the year.
Here in Middle Tennessee, and especially Williamson County, we have so much for which we can be thankful. A strong local economy...great schools, both public and private...outstanding elected officials who represent us so well...and a quality of life that is envied by many. For those of us in the real estate industry, how about the robust housing market we've had this year?
As your new association president, I want to challenge you to spend this holiday week considering your blessings. For some, recalling the past year will evoke warm and prosperous memories. For most of us though, thinking back on the year will draw up a mixture of pleasant and hard recollections. One of the beauties of practicing thankfulness is that it helps us gain perspective even during dry and weary times. It serves as a type of balm for the soul.
I want to close with a couple of quotations that speak to living a life of gratitude and Thanksgiving. May you have a blessed and restful holiday week.
"Gratitude follows grace like thunder lightning." - Karl Barth
"Whoever is not thankful for little will neither be thankful for much." - Estonian Proverb
"Reflect upon your present blessings- of which every man has many- not on your past misfortunes, of which all men have some." - Charles Dickens
